The Yacht; from vision to reality
The Windsong is 54ft sailing yacht (“SY”) designed to cruise around the world safely and comfortably, varying from the tropical islands around the equator up to the pack ice in the North or the South poles.
S/Y Windsong thanks her classic lines to her overhangs, a low freeboard, a flush deck, and a tall mast. However, the design was not only dictated by beauty, given that due account was given to among other the following safety considerations:
-
She has a heavy fin keel (6000 Kg) as this keel type is less vulnerable than a winged or bulbed keel.
-
Although her hull is made of cedar wood that has been reinforced by fiber glass, an inox metal frame has been installed over the entire length of the yacht.
-
She has a keel stepped mast and her sails configurations allow to balance her in practically all-weather conditions and to sail closer to windward.
-
She has a mechanical steering system (Jefa), which allows for more reliability and a true feeling of her motion in the waves.
It took approach six (6) years to get S/Y Windsong ready for her sea trials, but once commenced it is time to head for her new and natural home – the ocean.
