A little bit About Me

I graduated originally from the law faculty of the University of Antwerp with an interdisciplinary master in Safety & Security Science. After my study, I worked for over a decade for the Dutch subsidiaries and branches of foreign trade and investment banks and trust offices. My mission in these roles was to “enable the business to make profits within the rules of the game”, meaning that regulated firms are – in my view - rather in control when they actively invest in controlled risk taking strategies than when they actively avoid risk by avoiding entire categories of transactions, structures, or clients et cetera by default. In all my functions, I have had either an advising role as compliance consult or an all-round compliance responsibility (manager) regarding the firm’s bank / trust license. In addition, I am a board member of the Dutch Chapter of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (“ACAMS”) and the Association of Compliance Officers (NL: "VCO").

Next to my functions in the financial industry, I have been (coastal) sailing with my parents at an early age and I learned - as per Dutch traditions - the basics of sailing in so-called Optimists; single-handed sailing dinghies for children up to age of twelve (12) years. Many years later, I plan to sail around the world with S/Y Windsong, skipper larger crewed (sailing) yachts, and ultimately turn my experience into a consulting business to support (super) yacht owners. As you may know, the Dutchies are known for their experience and craftsmanship in this respect.
